How to make a balloon bouquet
To start, I recommend finding the video I made on the same subject, it's easier to follow with the visual. Having said that, here's how you arrange a balloon bouquet:
To begin, we'll use only 5 balloons. You can always add more later once you learn the technique, but this is a good number to start with. Generally speaking, you always want odd numbers, so the center will be something to look at and not the negative space between the balloons. It's also important to note that these instructions are for latex balloons only. Due to the California Balloon Laws, you don't want to use this method with mylar balloons.
Have the balloons on long ribbons, it will make everything else much easier.
Put all five balloons in your hand, coming out the top, all the balloons should be grouped together in one big "lollipop" formation, floating just above your hand.
Hold your hand at about waist height. Take the first balloon and bring it up as high as you can without hitting the ceiling or losing the string.
Take the second balloon, and without releasing all of the balloons, loosen your hand just enough to enable you to move the balloon. Pull it up until the top of the second balloon just touches the bottom of the first balloon. We call this method making them "kiss".
Continue through the rest of the balloons, making each balloon just kiss the balloon above it.
If you are starting to get short ribbons from the top balloons, tie them to the other balloons that you've already arranged and continue.
Once you have all five balloons arranged, tie a knot connecting all of the ribbons together. The knot should be a few inches below the bottom balloon.
To set the final height of the arrangement, use your body templates. That means measure the length of the ribbon under the last balloon against parts of your body. I usually measure from the hand that is holding the balloon straight across my outstretched arm to the shoulder of the same arm. That's the first height. The next height would be from my hand, across my outstretched arm to the center of my chest, then to the other shoulder, then across my full wingspan.
Once you've set your height, tie a knot where you want to connect to the anchor. Use this knot as a guide for tying onto your weight. This is the way that you can make beautiful consistent arrangements throughout the entire room.
